Gandhi Tandoori
If you're wandering through Woodford Green and your cravings suddenly call for rich, comforting Indian food, Gandhi Tandoori at 712 Chigwell Rd is where you’ll want to stop. This place doesn’t just serve food-it serves full-bodied flavor experiences that stay with you long after the last bite.
Let’s talk dishes first, because that’s really where Gandhi Tandoori shines. Chicken Tikka here is a total crowd-pleaser-chargrilled to perfection, smoky on the outside, and tender inside. You’ll catch a lovely tandoor aroma that hints at the depth of marination. Then there’s the Butterfly Prawn, a dish that walks the line between elegance and indulgence. Lightly crisped, but never greasy, it’s all about texture and zingy seasoning.
But if you're the kind of diner who leans into bold spice, the Meat Madras is your calling. It’s got that kick you expect, but balanced-there’s heat, but also this slow-cooked richness that keeps you going back in for more. ADHA Lamb is another strong contender, especially if you like tender lamb cooked with a generous hand of aromatic herbs. And the Karahi? Let’s just say, if you’re into sizzling skillet-style curry packed with onions, tomatoes, and fiery spices-this is it.
Now, here’s what makes Gandhi Tandoori a go-to spot for so many: the vibes are just right for a solo dinner after work, or a chilled-out evening where you don’t want to cook. It’s popular for dinner for a reason-it’s consistent, quick, and delivers every single time. The restaurant doesn’t have a wheelchair-accessible entrance, which is worth noting, but they make up for that with options-dine-in if you want the full experience, or opt for takeaway or delivery if you're staying in.
And drinks? Oh yes, they’ve got it all. Whether you’re looking to wind down with a glass of red or sip on a spirit while your food arrives, Gandhi Tandoori’s offerings won’t disappoint. From beer and wine to coffee and late-night options, they've set up a well-rounded selection that complements the food effortlessly.
What also stands out is the dessert situation. They serve dessert alongside dinner-perfect for those who believe no meal should end without a sweet note. Whether it’s something light or something decadent, there’s always a way to wrap things up here.
Gandhi Tandoori doesn't try too hard-it lets the food and reliable service do all the talking. It's the kind of place that stays on your speed dial when you want authentic Indian cuisine without the fuss. For those who appreciate a good curry done right, with the kind of balance and heart that’s increasingly hard to find, Gandhi Tandoori checks all the boxes.

I always enjoy my meal from these guys, to name a few dishes I've tried the lamb and the chicken biryani are tasty, love my Chicken Madras with Mushroom rice, always get a portion of Their meaty meat samosas, The restaurant looks good, I am looking forward to dining in one day
Went with a group of friends who eat here regularly and always rave about it. I was not disappointed. It was a Friday evening and the restaurant was packed, most diners appeared to be regulars, always a good sign. We ordered a variety of dishes which were all wonderfully tasty and full of flavour. Portions were generous sizes and priced very reasonably. Service was attentive and friendly. Will certainly return again very soon.
Absolutely immaculate service was provided. The staff were so attentive. The food was delicious. Chicken shashlik 10/10- this has got to be one of the best shashliks I’ve tasted. The chicken was so soft and succulent. I’d highly recommend this restaurant. Not only were the food and staff excellent. The decor was rustic emulating everything an Indian restaurant should be.
I first went to this restaurant about 30 years ago and have been several times over the years. It may have been redecorated since my first visit but it is difficult to say. It is cosy and really suits a group of at least three having a good banter rather than a romantic dinner for two. The food and service are okay and the portion sizes are small but maybe that is a good thing. The prices are low at just under £9 for a biryani, thus it is exceptional value for money - deserving 3 stars. It is an average but reliable choice.
